My Hospice Volunteer Experience Essay -- Contribution to My Community S
My first experience with hospice was in a bad way and I asked the hospice nurture that first day, ââ¬Å"How would you be able to do this each day?â⬠I will always remember her answer, ââ¬Å"Hospice isn't tied in with kicking the bucket, itââ¬â¢s about avowing life, helping individuals live their last days to the fullest.â⬠During the following a while, I started to see how evident her words were. Today, as a volunteer, those words reverberation in my brain each time Iââ¬â¢m going to meet another patient. I was so eager to get my first task; I had taken all the volunteer classes, tuned in to endless stories from different volunteers. I was prepared and anxious â⬠¦until I got my task. Anna was a 92 years of age woman with colon malignancy given just a couple of days to live. Anna was laid up and quiet. Muteâ⬠¦none of the narratives I had heard at any point referenced their patients being quiet. A thousand inquiries struck a chord alongside a mellow fit of anxiety. How might I ever know what she required? Would I know the correct words? How might I give her help and friendship in the event that she couldnââ¬â¢t mention to me what she required? Would I be sufficient? I was an apprehensive wreck! Preparing to stroll into Annaââ¬â¢s hospice room, my tension level was heightening. Saying a fast supplication, I requested that God assist me with finding the correct words to comfort Anna and her family. After thumping on her entryway, a youngster in her center 20ââ¬â¢s addressed the entryway. Opening the entryway for me, she educated me Anna was her grandma and she might want me just to sit with her and that she would return after work. What's more, she left. No become more acquainted with you presentation here, formal, obvious certainty, genuine sort of young lady. Nobody would attack her space. In any case, I thought, Iââ¬â¢m here to support Anna, ideally Julie will open up later. Turning my attenti... ...somewhat. The illness appeared to slacken its hold on her body with each stroke. I was celebrating when Annaââ¬â¢s head at long last laid on her cushion, something that hadnââ¬â¢t occurred since I had arrived. When Julie restored her grandma was gently wheezing. The vibe of delight and valuation for Julieââ¬â¢s beforehand harsh face made my day and again my eyes welled with tears. The fence Julie had worked around her heart gradually crumbled as she watched the bond I had created with her ââ¬Å"momâ⬠. With a shuddering voice, Julie uncovered the pressure and passionate unrest of watching this overwhelming illness detain the main mother she had known. Chipping in for hospice has been one of the most satisfying things I have done. Each patient is extraordinary and now and again youââ¬â¢re only there to help the family, however every family is so grateful.

As for how often these cycles occur, there is, unfortunately, no definitive answer. Frequency of Bipolar Cycles The frequency and duration of cycles are as varied as the individuals who have them. This change or âmood swingâ can last for hours, days, weeks, or even months. Typically, someone with bipolar disorder experiences one or two cycles a year, with manic episodes generally occurring in the spring or fall. A 2010 study of people with bipolar 1 disorder found that mood episodes lasted an average of 13 weeks.?? On average, people with bipolar will have one or two cycles yearly. In addition, there is a seasonal influenceâ"manic episodes occur more often in the spring and fall. Triggers in Bipolar Disease Certain conditions are known to trigger symptoms in people with bipolar disease. Understanding these triggersâ"and avoiding themâ"can minimize symptoms and limit the number of cycles a person experiences. These include: Insufficient amounts of sleep??Altercations with loved onesAlcohol and drug misuseCertain antidepressants and other medicationsA change in seasonsPregnancy and other hormonal conditionsGrief over the death of a friend or family memberEvents such as starting a creative project, falling in love, going on vacation, listening to loud music, menstruation, and decreased physical exercise?? Rapid Cycling in Bipolar Disease The phrase rapid cycling is tagged to the diagnosis of those who have four or more cycles in a 12-month period. However, while four or more cycles in a one-year period meet the criteria for a diagnosis of rapid-cycling bipolar illness, rapid cycling is not necessarily a permanent pattern for a person who experiences it. Rather, rapid cycling can present at any point in the course of the disease and can be transient. While about 2.5 percent of Americans have bipolar disorder, only about 10 to 20 percent of those will develop rapid cycling.?? Rapid cycling may be more likely to affect those who were young when symptoms first appeared, those who have had bipolar disorder for a longer time, and those who misuse alcohol and other substances.?? In addition, some people with The term ultra-rapid cycling may be applied to those who cycle through episodes within a month or less. If this pattern occurs within a 24-hour period, the persons diagnosis could possibly be termed ultra-ultra-rapid cycling or ultradian. It is often difficult to tell ultradian cycling from a mixed episode. Treating Bipolar Disorder Whether a person with bipolar disease experiences a cycle once every five years or many times each day, there are treatments that can help. These include: Using medications, including mood stabilizers, antipsychotic medications, and antidepressantsCognitive-behavioral therapy and other forms of psychotherapyElectroconvulsive therapy commonly referred to as shock therapy??Disease education and self-management techniquesAlternative and complementary health practices such as meditation

Essay on Shakespeares The Tempest as a Microcosm of Society
The Tempest as Microcosm of Society The Tempest is one of Shakespeares most universal plays and, not coincidentally, is very much concerned with human behavior and emotion. As John Wilders observes in The Lost Garden, ââ¬Å"Prosperoââ¬â¢s island is what the sociologists call a ââ¬Ëmodelââ¬â¢ of human society. Its cast of characters allows Shakespeare to portray in microcosm nearly all the basic, fundamental social relationships: those of a ruler to his territory, a governor to his subjects, a father to his child, masters to servants, male to female, and the rational to the irrational within the human microcosm itself ([London: Macmillan Press Ltd., 1978], 127). Prospero himself is an observer of and experimenter with human behavior: heâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Hirst, The Tempest: Text and Performance [London: Macmillan Publishers Ltd., 1984], 28). Prosperoââ¬â¢s two servants, Ariel and Caliban, are the first subjects of his experimentation. Terry Eagleton explains, ââ¬Å"If Ariel needs to be tied down to the life of the body, the creaturely Caliban needs to be cranked up to the level of language. Ariel and Caliban symbolize, respectively, pure language and pure body, a freedom which threatens to transgress all restraint and a sensuous enslavement to material limit. Prospero strives to bring both of them within that dialectic of activity and passivity, bondage and transcendence, which for Shakespeare is prototypically humanâ⬠(William Shakespeare [Oxford: Basil Blackwell, 1986], 95). When he first arrived on the island and discovered Caliban, Prospero treated the monster ââ¬Å"with human careâ⬠(1.2.346; all references to line numbers are from The Riverside Shakespeare, ed. G. Blakemore Evans [Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1974]). He tried, with Mirandaââ¬â¢s assistance, to educate and civilize Caliban, the offspring of a witch and an incubus, the very epitome of ignorance, bestiality, and treachery. Caliban explains that Prospero taught him ââ¬Å"how / To name the bigger light, and how the less, / That burn by day and night (1.2.334à 36), and Miranda says, ââ¬Å"I pitied thee, / Took pains to make thee speak, taught thee each hour / One thing or otherâ⬠(1.2.353à 55). There are even groups and applications designed to help make finding these people easier. Effects on Teen Social interactions Soci al Medal has had a huge Impact on the way people interact with each other. Before the Internet and social networking sites, peoples mall forms of immunization were telephones, letters, and most commonly face-to-face interactions. Teens have had the largest impact on social interactions with the new age of technology. A study completed about social anxiety and technology shows that tens social interactions are greatly affected by the use of technology and sites. Seventy-four percent of high school students that participated in the study claim to use a social networking site. The study has suggested that using modern technology with others face-to-face. The study also show a lower level of stress when the teens ere interacting with people online (Pierce, 2009). Teens are in the stage of their lives where they are still developing socially and learning how to interact with others. The more a teen communicates with others using a form of technology, the less chances they have to communicate face-to-face and develop strong personable skills. The teens who are using networking sites and testing as their main sources of communication are feeling more anxious when interacting face-to-face because they have not yet developed all of the necessary skills to do so. Social Media and Privacy There are many privacy issues surrounding the Social Medias. Recently, these privacy issues have affected newly graduating college students. It has become a common trend for Jobs to invade applicants privacy by using their social accounts to pass judgments about them. This has caught many off guard, as the employers have been asking for their social network passwords during the interview process. Employers may take the perspective that they need to know not only their potential employees work-related skills and abilities but also the characteristics and traits that indicate he persons capability of being a good, reliable employee. Many employers claim that Social Network provides insight about those traits (Pike, 1). Sources are now suggesting advice to people searching for Jobs. Their advice is to limit what you are posting on social networks. Another privacy issue that has come about is the tagging feature the social network has. People on Social Networks have the ability to tag others to photos and other posts without their knowledge. These tagged photos and posts then appear on the tagged persons page. This can create issues of privacy. There have been plenty of times people have been out placing or doing certain actions they would not want to be posted. They are posted anyway without their knowledge. Cyber-Bullying Another popular issue with Social Media is cyber-bullying. Schools have recently been in a constant battle to try to avoid and prevent cyber-bullying from occurring. Bullying can be defined as a prolonged mistreatment by a person who harbors malicious intentions and who is perceived to be more powerful than the victim of abuse (Hindu Patching, 2007). Face-to-face (FT) bullying can be carried out hectically, verbally or relationally (Woods Wolfe, 2004) (Swan Koori, 1). This definition is from a time before bullying moved to the platform of social networks on the internet. Social Medias like Faceable, Youths have now become one of the most used platforms to bully others. Boys bully more than girls according to statistics. With the networks allowing users to upload videos to their websites and tag others to it, many fights have been recorded and posted on the Media. These videos of fights have begun to lead to legal consequences involving the police and the school. It is aid that through social networks, where people are not face-to-face, people that who usually would not get involved in bullying of other do. This is a problem that has been being addressed, but there needs to be more done to prevent this issue from happening as often as it does. Business Practices Social Medias business practices sometimes annoy people. Because most of its revenue comes from advertisements and people dont want to see it on their news feed. Some people dont care, some people do. So the businesses use one persons ethical it is to use somebody information for taking the business to them. From the businesss perspective, they have to earn money and theres no policy against it so far to stop using private information. According to The New York Times (2012), Ads that pop up on your screen might seem useful, or at worst, a nuisance. But they are much more than that. The bits and bytes about your life can easily be used against you. Whether you can obtain a Job, credit or insurance can be based on your digital doppelgà ¤nger ? and you may never know why youve been turned down. People can hide their information by using privacy settings. But the problem is these sites mutinously changing its appearance and themes. So it gets changed, all the previous settings get changed with it as well. For many people it is really hard to keep track when to change the settings. So if they change their setting once they think it is safe but they dont realize that when the new theme s come up they have to change it again. So their information remains unprotected. For example, when Faceable introduced timeline, its features were similar to the old Faceable. But now every time someone changes their profile picture it automatically sets it up as public and people onto know about it. So anybody has access to it and can use it however they want, which is very crucial because bad people can harm others through cyber bullying using their pictures and there is hardly any way to figure out who did this. Recommendation At this backdrop it is really questionable whether Social Medias need to be criticized or appreciated. It has spread like virus. But some courses of actions like arranging awareness seminar, webzines etc. Would help people to understand and set their privacy.
